Project Spotlight: Flags For Good Custom Boxes
May 19, 2025

The Challenge:

Flags For Good isn’t your average flag company. Launched in 2020 and proudly based in Indianapolis, they only make flags for causes they believe in. This May, they opened their first-ever brick-and-mortar location—just in time for Indy’s favorite month.

To celebrate the grand opening, Flags For Good partnered with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to launch an officially licensed, limited-edition set of IMS race flags. Each collectible box set featured eight symbolic racing flags: from the green flag that kicks things off, to the iconic checkered flag and the recognizable Wings & Wheel logo, the same design that flies over the famous IMS Pagoda.

Owner Michael Green came to Tactive with a vision: two custom boxes (for sets of 2’x3’ and 3’x5’ sized flags) that felt like true collector’s items. The packaging needed to showcase the vibrant flag sets inside through a window, include printed explanations of each flag’s meaning, and allow for a full-color, high-impact design that would stand out both in-store and on social media.

The Solution:

Tactive shifted into gear.

We started by creating two durable, full-color box templates tailored to fit each flag size. Michael, a designer himself, used those templates to develop a beautiful layout featuring imagery from the Brickyard. An image of each flag was printed on the box with a brief description so even rookie fans could keep up with the racing action.

After some tweaking with our prepress and production teams to get the unboxing experience juuuuust right, we printed and cut the boxes in-house, carefully assembling each one to preserve a high-quality, collectible feel. The result was a bold, retail-ready package that added energy and context to an already iconic flag set.

And the partnership didn’t stop at the packaging. Tactive also helped transform the Flags for Good storefront itself—printing custom vinyl to help the team turn the building’s round window and wooden façade into a massive, head-turning Indianapolis flag. It was the perfect tribute to the city, the month of May, and Flags For Good’s Indianapolis home.
